Inovus Medical is a design and manufacture of medical surgical stimulators. Founded in 2012 the business has developed low-cost surgical simulators at a fraction of the cost of other models.

Approaching the programme

The provision of affordable and accessible medical simulation products creates wider opportunities for simulation-based training and learning throughout the NHS. Simulation training in the development of clinical skills allows learners to better understand clinical situations and reduces risk to patients. Learners are able to practice skills and role-play different scenarios, providing valuable preparation for real-life situations. Access to simulation training has conventionally been restricted by cost.  Medical simulators can typically cost from £3,000 to £100,000 and are often only available through universities or hospital clinical labs.

Inovus were seeking to develop their products more widely to create greater access to medical simulation training both within the NHS and abroad.

The company were originally introduced to the HIE programme via a referral from St Helens Council to the Liverpool City Region LEP who, after meeting with Inovus, introduced them to the Innovation Agency.

What we did

The Innovation Agency helped secure over £150,000 funding for the Inovus Medical to develop their medical simulation products.

This funding, from the Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) and European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT), has allowed Inovus Medical to market new products, including a turnkey hysteroscopy simulator, based on their original model which is now used in nearly 100 hospitals in the NHS.

Our results

The support from the Innovation Agency has opened doors to funding and help spread the word on the innovative work being carried out by Inovus.

The company now has eight different healthcare simulators on the market. The investment facilitated by the Innovation Agency has enabled them to introduce augmented reality and software additions to enhance the existing products.
